Scan installation Drive with ChkDsk
Microsoft Office Word 2016 might have failed to decode the document you’re trying to open. This problem arises when the HD clusters are physically damaged. The very first step is to close all applications and check your hard disk using ChkDsk.
- Double click This PC icon on your Desktop.
- Right-click the drive containing Microsoft Office installation files, typically C:\.
- Choose Properties from the context menu.
- Click the Tools tab, and then Check button.
- Click Scan Drive button in subsequent prompt.
Delete Recently Installed Fonts
When you load Microsoft Word 2016, it retrieves a list of all fonts installed on your machine. Unreadable fonts can crash Microsoft Word 2016. Get a detailed list of all installed fonts, and delete the ones recently installed either by yourself or by any third-party applications.
- Press Windows Key + X; choose Control Panel.
- Click Appearance and Personalization | Fonts.
- Click the downward arrow named More Options before the Help icon on the upper-right corner.
- Move the slider to Details option.
- Control Panel window will reorganize the fonts in a detailed manner.
- Select a recently installed font, and then click the Delete button.
Download Minor Updates
At times, Microsoft releases minor updates to diagnose issues commonly associated with Microsoft Office. In your case, the updates might have been disabled. Follow the steps given below in order to get latest updates now.
- Click the File menu.
- Click Office Account.
- Click the Update Options button under Office Updates category.
- Click the Update Now button.
Delete Unsaved Documents
All unsaved documents are part of documents recovery options. Microsoft Word 2016 stores all unsaved documents in a special directory in ASD format. It may, however, crash if it tries to load data from an unsaved document that is corrupt.
- Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
- Type AppData in the textbox, click OK.
- Navigate to the following directory: …\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles
- Delete all ASD files.
Change User Profile Access Level
Change the account type to Administrator while working with documents stored in folders that require administrative privileges. Here’s how:
- Open the Run dialog. Type Netplwiz and press Enter.
- The newly opened User Accounts dialog enables you to add, remove and configure the existing user accounts.
- Click the Users tab, choose your current user profile and then click the Properties button.
- In the subsequent dialog, click the Group Membership tab.
- Choose the account access level to Administrator, and then click OK.
- Click OK again.
