Endless Reboot Loop after Windows 10 Update

Windows 10 came with the introduction of  Windows Update to the world. This feature was also available in the previous versions, it was known as Microsoft Update.

It automatically downloads and installs new updates offered by Microsoft and partner sites. Windows 10 provides limited options to control the way updates are downloaded and installed. Unlike in earlier versions, there is no way to turn off the installation of new updates except through activation of Metered Connection feature for WiFi. Therefore, Windows 10 is more vulnerable to endless reboot loops after unsuccessful, failed updates installations and random system reboots.

If you want to fix the endless reboot loop error, optimize computer services and clean Windows junk, use ST Cleaner to do the job.

Perform Startup Repair Using Windows Setup

Startup Repair can fix a certain set of problems that prevent your computer from booting normally. Endless system reboots are caused due to an incompletely installed or incompatible update. The Startup Repair feature, an essential part of Windows Setup, is designed to detect and diagnose problems that prevent the operating system from starting correctly.

  1. Insert Windows installation disc, restart your laptop.
  2. Once your computer splashes the manufacturer’s logo on the screen, press F2 or Delete key repeatedly prior to the next boot interval.
  3. Configure the BIOS Setup in the following manner:
    First Boot Device: DVD ROM
    Second Boot Device: HDD
  4. Save changes; exit.
  5. Press any key when prompted.
  6. Click Repair your computer link.
  7. Click Troubleshoot > Startup Repair.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete Startup Repair.

Disable Automatic Reboots

No auto-restart is a setting that prevents your computer from automatically restarting after critical system error. Although it won’t resolve the issue, it’ll help you get enough information about the error being displayed on the screen. Also, the error code and log files can be very helpful while diagnosing the problem.

  1. Right-click This PC desktop shortcut, choose Properties.
  2. Click Advanced system settings.
  3. Click the Advanced tab > Settings (Startup and Recovery).
  4. Uncheck the Automatically restart checkbox under System Failure category.
  5. Click OK | OK.

Uninstall Recent Updates

Users have reported random system reboots following the successful installation of updates. The problem is severe enough to corrupt operating system files, resulting into file system errors and loss of important documents & files. You’ll need the summary of recent updates in order to figure out incompletely installed, incompatible updates.

  1. Type Installed Updates in the Search Box.
  2. Open it from the Search Results.
  3. Sort the updates in a datewise manner. Click the Installed On column head to do so.
  4. Uninstall recently installed updates. (Right-click > Uninstall)
  5. After successfully uninstalling all recently installed updates, restart the computer.

Use a Restore Point Prior to Updates Installation

System Restore restores your computer to the last known configuration of Windows that performed properly. Revert the recent configuration change to its working state using the preinstalled tool in Windows.

  1. Type rstrui.exe in the Search Box on the Taskbar.
  2. Open it from the Search Results.
  3. You will see the System Restore wizard on your screen. Click Next.
  4. Select a restore point prior to installation of new updates.
  5. Click Next.

Note: To get to the list of affected programs, click Scan for affected programs in Page # 2 of the System Restore wizard.
