Temporarily Hiding a Pop-Up

Move the cursor to the top-left corner and click on the X symbol to temporarily hide it.

To hide all notifications at once, click the Clear All link on the top-right corner of the Notification Centre.

 

Permanently Disable Notifications

Use the Settings screen to set up lightweight notifications specific to the most commonly used apps. This way you’ll get rid of notifications from unwanted apps.

  1. Click the Start button on the Taskbar.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the System icon.
  4. Click the Notifications & Actions tab.
  5. If you wish to disable notifications for a particular application, scroll down and locate the name of that application under Show notifications from these apps.
  6. Move the corresponding slider to left (turn it OFF).
  7. Close the window.

 

Blocking Inter-App Pop-Ups

Here are steps to get rid of pop-ups within an app, for example, a web browser.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the More Actions () icon on the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click View advanced settings.
  4. Move Block Pop-Ups slider to right (turn it ON).

Other Browsers:

Download Ad-Blocker or any other program that blocks online advertisements, pop-ups, and promotional scripts from web pages. Install it and from then onwards you shan’t get any irritating popups and banner ads.

 

Uninstall Malicious Application

Your computer may have been infected by a virus/ spyware. Viruses may display notifications and suggest you should buy a particular product or simply warn that your computer is unsafe. You should review the apps’ installation history, uninstall recently installed suspicious application(s), full scan your PC using a good Antivirus.

  1. Click Start, select Settings.
  2. Click the System icon.
  3. Click Apps and Features.
  4. You’ll get the applications list on the screen. Rearrange them by the date of their installation. To do so, select Sort by install date option from the dropdown box.
  5. One by one select any program with an unknown publisher and uninstall it.
