You never realize the importance of capturing photos until the moment has passed and you are ready to reminisce about it. Photographs are a great way to memorize precious moments and cherish them later. From showcasing our adventures to capturing anything we find interesting, photos help preserve them.
Considering how essential photos can be, it is always wise to have a back-up of your photos. Trust me, you do not want to take a risk on this at all. What if you forget the password to your Shutterfly account and even your associated email?
The wise thing to do is to backup all your Shutterfly photos by transferring them to Google Photos. In this article, I will guide you on how to do that:
Downloading Photos from Shutterfly
Unfortunately, there is no direct feature or tool that could automatically transfer photos from Shutterfly to Google Drive. So you will first have to download all files from your Shutterfly account. Here’s how you can do so:
Desktop – My Photos Section
Shutterfly allows users to download full-resolution photographs at no cost. You could either download each picture individually or else, you could select up to 500 photos and perform a batch download on them. In the latter case, you will be able to download them as a zipped file.
- First, select all the photos or videos that you wish to download
- Hit the Download button that you can see on the action bar located at the page’s top
- Soon, you will receive a link via email through which you can download your selected photos as a zipped folder
- Once downloaded, you can use a tool like WinZip to extract all the files. Make sure you extract them all to a single folder so that it’s easier to locate them later while uploading to Google Drive
Mobile Applications
Unfortunately, the Shutterfly mobile app does not offer a batch download functionality. So you will have to go through the process of downloading each photo individually. Although downloading photos via mobile apps is convenient, there is a negative aspect to it: they are of only printing quality and not full resolution. Nevertheless, here is how you can download photos:
Android
- Tap the photograph you wish to download
- Tap on the three vertical dots that can be seen on the upper right corner
- Hit Download
iPhone
- Tap on the photograph you wish to download
- Click on the Share button
- Select the Save Image option
Uploading to Google Photos
Uploading photographs to Google Photos is quite an easy task. Here are a few simple steps:
- Go to Google Photos and log in
- Click Upload and choose between Computer and Google Drive
As you can see, the process might take some time but it is quite straight-forward. Happy transferring!
