If you are planning on sending a folder via email, you are likely to get an error message that this option is not available. Luckily, there are several options through which you can do that and for that, you will need to be a bit tech-savvy.
Basically, you will need to either compress the folder or upload it to a cloud service. Therefore, do not worry, we will make you learn the tricks. Follow us.
How to compress a folder?
A zipped or compressed file is smaller than its original version. Therefore, compressing the files and then putting them into a folder makes it much easier to share files. Windows makes creating a zipped file quite easy.
First, find the folder that you wish to compress. Then, right-click and click “Send” to “compressed folder”. Windows will create the same folder in the original location with “.zip” at the end.
Using Outlook to Email a Zipped Folder
Microsoft Outlook provides a limit of 20 MB to send zipped folders. As long as your folder’s size does not exceed that, you are good to go.
Launch Outlook and click “New Email Message”. Then, select “insert” followed by “attach file”. Select the folder if it appears in the most recent items or locates it via browsing your PC. Add any message if required and send the email.
Using Gmail to Email a Zipper Folder
As compared to Outlook, Gmail allows a size limit of 25 MB. Therefore, make sure your folder does not exceed that. Log into Gmail and select ‘compose’ to start a new email. Click on the “attachment” icon below. Locate the folder you wish to attach and open. Once the message is completed, hit send.
Downloading and Decompressing Files
If you are on the receiving end, downloading and decompressing files and folders is easy as well. Once the files or folders have been downloaded, proceed to unzip them to access the files inside.
Right-click the folder and select “extract all”. Then, select the location where you wish to store the extracted files and hit “extract”. After a few moments, files will be extracted and a new folder will pop up as well.
How to Send a Folder Using Cloud Service?
If compressing files and folders and then sending them through email is not your thing, then you might want to try sending a folder using a cloud service. The first thing you will need to do is upload the folder on your drive. Then, you can share a link to your recipient allowing them to access the folder along with the files inside without giving access to the rest of your cloud drive. Once the recipient receives the link, they will simply click it to access the folders and files.
