Lost Sphear Lags and Freezes

A Japanese role-playing game is becoming more and more common nowadays and it’s none other than Lost Sphear. Developed by the famous Square Enix Co, the protagonist has been witnessed to be a phenomenon that no one has ever seen before.

Whenever a memory is forgotten, some portion of the world just diminishes. This is a journey to save the world where the storyline is incredible, to say the least. The gameplay is just as seamless as the storyline of Lost Sphear.

Issues Faced During Gameplay

There is perhaps, no game safe from widespread complaints about issues faced by users during the gameplay. And the same holds true for Lost Sphear, where there is a huge number of ever-increasing complaints about the certain issues that plague the gameplay.

There are complaints about in-game stutters. In the beginning, moving around the map causes stutters. While users with this specific complaint do suggest that the framerate is stable, the stutters turn out to be the main undoing. We will look into how to solve it shortly.

Another common issue being talked about is screen tearing. People with well above specs for running the game are experiencing this situation in which the screen has vertical lines across it. One reason for it could be the Vsync being turned off. We will address this issue as well in a while.

One of the issues that is well documented is the user being unable to see any sprites when the game launches. No characters can be seen in this instance. The only graphics present are the background and the spells. This is the stage where the protagonist is supposed to wake up but all that the gamers can make sense of is the background music and that’s it. Another similar bug that has been reported is the game freeze which prevents the users from progressing further in the game. The particular scene being talked of is when Locke has been injured while shielding the soldiers from the blast. When the main character goes through the path where Lumina asks to wake up, the screen freezes. It gets completely white and there is no way to revert it. The game has possibly crashed by now which is why it never tends to run again.

A few of the users of the game have also complained of high load times and have termed it as lag. The possible reasons behind this issue will be discussed in the following passage.

Solutions to Problems

Addressing the last issue we discussed in the above passage, the definite reason for high load times i.e. around 20 seconds is the presence of a hard disk drive rather than a solid state drive. Due to the mechanical parts in the HDD (which means having moving parts in the drive), it takes more time to read data. An SSD would almost certainly improve the load times and if load time is one of your issues, it is about time to upgrade to an SSD.

To eliminate the issue of stuttering we discussed above, you need to use the mod framework that is present on GitHub.

Change the settings in dxgi.ini as follows:

  1. Set the TargetFPS variable equal to 60.
  2. Turn the SleepLessRenderThread variable to True.
  3. Set the PreRenderLimit, BackBufferCount and the PresentationInterval equal to 2, 3 and 1 respectively.

Screen tearing can possibly be solved by turning on Vsync. This can be done by first installing the Nvidia Inspector. This software lets you have some more graphics options. From these options, you need to set the FPS (Frames Per Second) to 60 and have the Vsync to adaptive. You can follow these simple steps to do this:

  1. Click the Start menu, type in Nvidia Control Panel and open the application.
  2. Go to the Manage 3D settings panel.
  3. Under Global Settings, look for Vertical Sync and turn it on

This is how you can help yourselves out of the screen tearing issue. Last but not the least, it is imperative that you check the system specs and ensure your computer at least meets those requirements.
